Living Local- Pembroke Patisserie Picnic by the Lake

If you’re visiting Wanaka over the summer, one of the must do things is to visit the Wanaka Farmers Market.

One of the favourite things for us locals to do is grab some goodies from the market and head lakeside for an afternoon picnic. There’s nothing better than sitting down for a breather and snacking on something as delicious as the view. The farmers market is the best place to sample the wonderful produce, artisan foods and crafts made by some very talented and dedicated locals.

We gathered up a few of our favourite things from the market: pâté from Taste of the Alps, chutney from Pirate Pickles and to wash it all down, a bottle of sparkling kefir water from Revive. Then we packed our sun hats and picnic rug and had a great feast with the kiddies, followed by the obligatory run around the famous dinosaur park afterwards! You needn’t opt for something as elaborate as this, sometimes just a simple snack and sit down is enough.

The Wanaka Farmers Market is held every Thursday afternoon from 3-6pm alongside Bullock Creek on Ardmore St, and along with the Wanaka Sunday Craft Market every Sunday throughout summer from 10-2pm on Pembroke Park.

Of course if you have a craving for a picnic outside of those days, not to worry. We have our goodies stocked at the best cafés and purveyors of deliciousness in town.
